On June 11th and 12th, 33 college representatives visited YES Prep Fifth Ward, as part of IMPACT's institute. IMPACT began in 2006 as a way to boost college persistence for our students. The institute served as a forum for students and their parents to network with admissions counselors and to gain exposure to partner institutions. The 200 YES Prep students who attended are projected to graduate with a minimum of a 3.4 GPA and/or 1070 SAT/24 ACT.
Joy Afolabi, rising senior at YES Prep Brays Oaks, reported that she learned the skills necessary to stay organized while completing her applications. She also appreciated sessions with the college representatives. "The admissions representative from Whitman College told us that counselors are friendly people and were once in our shoes," she stated. "Connections with counselors are one of the most important connections to make."
