Spindletop Charities, Inc. Gives Record Gift to help Build Teacher Training Center!

This year, Spindletop has pledged an unprecedented $1,000,000 to YES Prep’s Redefine Possible campaign. In particular, the gift will support the brand-new Spindletop Center for Teaching Excellence, an epicenter for teacher development. The center, housed in YES Prep’s newest campus YES Prep Southside, will develop hundreds of high-quality new teachers and impact thousands of students across the city per year.

The Spindletop Center for Teaching Excellence will be used as a dedicated space for the Teaching Excellence Program, a first year teacher development and certification program, which provides rigorous and relevant training and individualized support for new teachers. Over the course of a school year, teachers in the program complete 310 hours of intensive on-line, video, and in-person training and are paired with an instructional coach who guides them through every component of the program, monitors their progress, and ensures that they complete the program.

The facility will not only train YES Prep’s rapidly increasing number of teachers, but will also support new teachers across Houston. With its firm commitment to driving practice and creating impact beyond YES Prep’s walls, Teaching Excellence already serves teachers from KIPP Houston and Spring Branch I.S.D. A dedicated teacher training center will allow Teaching Excellence to continue serving other districts and prepare even more high-quality teachers for success – transforming the city of Houston.
