On September 8, 2016, Slalom Consulting was honored by Consulting Magazine for its partnership with YES Prep. Slalom Consulting earned the Social & Community Investment Award for its impact on YES Prep’s staff and students. Last year, Slalom volunteers provided staff training, homework help for students, essay reviews for college applications, mock interviews for seniors, a library book drive, and more.
Shoney Thomas, Slalom’s Delivery Leadership Consultant, recognized the impact of conducting mock interviews and reviewing college essays. Slalom volunteers were able to provide “direct feedback on how to improve, which gave students valuable insight and a different perspective,” Thomas said. Slalom also invited seniors to their offices to offer the students a glimpse of career choices after college.
“One student, who was undecided about which college to attend, chose University of Houston, so he would be able to intern at Slalom while in college,” said Shannette Prince, YES Prep’s Manager of Individual Giving.
Roshunda Brown, instructor at YES Prep West, was grateful to Slalom staff for working with her students. “It made them feel important to be interviewed by professionals,” she said. “They came in dressed for success and ready to conquer what we practiced the previous weeks.”
YES Prep congratulates Slalom on its award and is grateful for the continued partnership.
