Vannessa Riascos

I went to my first Senior Signing Day as a 6th grader. It’s such an important event because I saw myself in the seniors’ shoes. I think it’s an awesome tradition so other students and peers know where you’re going and what you’ve accomplished over your years at YES Prep. I want to thank my mom and my sister for helping me get to Senior Signing Day. They worked so hard to give me different opportunities and motivate me to keep going. Next year, I’ll be attending Sam Houston State University to pursue a criminal justice major.

Fransia Rodriguez

Senior Signing Day is important because I’ll be the first person in my family to graduate. They’ll see me walk up on stage and announce a four-year college– something my older siblings have never done. I couldn’t have done this without my mother and my spanish teacher from 8th and 9th grade, Mr. Montijo. Even though he wasn’t my teacher anymore, he was always checking up on me and he wrote my recommendation letters. He and my mom were a good support system. If she saw I was slacking off, she’d call him. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to go and prove myself and form relationships with new people. Next year, I will be an IMPACT scholar and will play soccer for Washington and Jefferson College.

Senior Signing Day is an important milestone. I can finally declare that I’m going to college– just like my sister did. I want to thank all of my teachers. I’m pretty sure they worked their pants off to get every single one of us to walk across the stage. My family has supported me a lot too. And my peers. I’m most excited to live on campus and do things differently in the next stage of my life. Next year, I’ll be attending University of Houston and will be a part of their Urban Experience Program.
