On October 12, 2017, YES Prep hosted its 11th college fair at NRG Park. For the second year in a row, KIPP-Houston joined forces with YES Prep, drawing over 3,500 juniors and seniors and 130 colleges and universities.
“It’s extremely important for students from low-income backgrounds to have access to college and university representatives so they can get information and find a best fit for their college career,” said YES Prep’s Managing Director of College Counseling, Randi Jones. “A college fair like this one gives students a unique opportunity to talk one-on-one with representatives that they might not normally be able to meet.”
YES Prep Brays Oaks juniors, Angela Mejia and Ana Contreras, agreed. “I think having a college fair is important because it opens you to opportunities and programs at universities that you didn’t know were available to you,” Mejia said. “It also helps you find majors that are interesting,” Contreras added.
