YES Prep Students Help Collect Toys at Spindletop Holiday Ball

On December 6, 2017, Spindletop Charities, Inc. held the Spindletop Holiday Ball, its premiere holiday season giving event, at the Westin Galleria Hotel. Each guest was asked to bring an unwrapped gift as part of the Spindletop Toy Drive. Upon arrival, YES Prep 6th grade “college-bound elves” greeted the guests and thanked them for bringing a gift to the event. The many age-appropriate books, toys and clothing were later organized by volunteers and distributed to Spindletop youth charities, including YES Prep!

The Spindletop Toy Drive has been a festive tradition during the Spindletop Holiday Ball and having the YES Prep 6th graders participate for the past 16 years  has been a wonderful addition to the spirit of the event! This year, cheerful 6th graders Fanny Caceres, Fabrizo Villa, Jasmine Walton from YES Northside participated and were accompanied by YES Prep Northside School Director Brittany McGruder, Chief Advancement Officer Ann Ziker, and Director of Advancement Leigh Levine. The three students went home with fond memories of greeting guests and visiting with Santa and eagerly shared their experiences with their fellow 6th grade students the next day at school.

Since 1998, the partnership of YES Prep and Spindletop has been an integral part to YES Prep’s growth. Spindletop has supported many projects including the Spindletop Technology & Science Wing at the North Central campus, mobile computer labs, the Spindletop Alumni Scholarship Fund, and the White Oak campus library. During the Spindletop 50th anniversary celebration in 2014, Spindletop announced its largest gift in its 50-year history of $1,000,000 to YES Prep’s Redefine Possible Campaign. The funds were designated for the Spindletop Teaching Excellence Center located at the YES Prep Home Office.
