On Saturday, January 27th YES Prep Northside hosted its fourth annual Get Connected Family Resource Fair, drawing over 100 students and families. The event featured 41 vendors and community organizations, as well as child-friendly activities such as a bounce house and face-painting. Congressman Gene Green, whose office helped to sponsor the event, attended to address families.
Vendors provided free or low-cost services and resources for families, including dental care, diabetes screenings, aid for victims of domestic abuse, college and career-readiness programming, parenting classes, voter registration, and more.
“We’re connecting families with the community and the school,” said ShNay Ballard, Student Support Counselor at YES Prep Northside. “If we can meet the needs of families, we can better meet the needs of students.”
A special thank you to YES Prep ACE, Congressman Green’s office, the planning committee, our partner organizations, and all the volunteers who helped make this event possible.
