Houston, Texas (Thursday, April 14, 2016) – The YES Prep Public Schools Board of Directors unanimously voted to confirm Mark DiBella for the position of Chief Executive Officer. DiBella has held various, progressive roles with YES Prep since 2001 including serving as Superintendent for the last two years.
In February, the Board voted unanimously to name him the sole finalist after a competitive national search. Under Texas law, the Board had to initiate a 21-day waiting period before it could formally vote on a contract to hire the CEO finalist. DiBella is the third leader in the organization’s history, succeeding Jason Bernal and founder Chris Barbic.
Chairman of the Board, Mark Gregg, summarized the Board’s decision this way, “Mark’s remarkable fifteen year career with YES Prep leaves no doubt about his deep commitment to the organization and to realizing its vision to provide every child in Houston with equitable access to an excellent public school. He has risen to the challenge of every new role he has held with YES Prep and the Board is confident that he will successfully lead the organization through the next stage of its growth.”
YES Prep currently serves 10,000 students in 15 campuses across Houston and has partnerships with Aldine ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and KIPP Houston Public Schools. It plans to expand its impact by opening more schools, partnering with other local school districts, and quadrupling the number of college-ready graduates by 2020.
DiBella commented, “For the last 15 years I have been a proud member of the YES Prep team, and today I am humbled by the board’s decision. YES Prep will continue to be a major force of educational reform in Houston and will continue to work in close collaboration with our partners to redefine what is possible for all children when they have equal access to a rigorous, college-prep education. The futures of our students and of our great city depends on it.”
