Children At Risk (CAR) announced the 2016 top schools in Houston and five of our qualifying high schools and five of our qualifying middle schools earned A’s. CAR ranked 303 middle schools and 171 high schools in Houston based on data from the 2014 – 2015 school year. The ranking methodology assessed each school across three indices:
- Student Achievement Index that examines performance on STAAR Reading and Math tests;
- Campus Performance Index that is an adjustment of achievement indicators to eliminate bias toward campuses with low percentages of economically disadvantaged students;
- Growth Index that examines the improvement over time on standardized test scores in Reading, English, and Math; and
- A fourth index for high schools, the College Readiness Index that examines graduation rates, SAT/ACT participation rate and scores, and AP/IB participation rate and scores.
Congratulations to our inspiring school leaders, dedicated teachers, and talented students who give 100% every day and are redefining the future of our city and our nation.
