In our Senior Spotlight Series, we follow YES Prep seniors as they set goals for their futures, apply to colleges, and make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. In each installment, you’ll meet seniors from one of our ten campuses with graduating classes. Below, you’ll meet seniors from our North Forest campus.
Danielle Graham’s goal for her senior year is to improve North Forest’s transition conference, an event that helps eighth graders prepare for high school. She attended Carnegie Mellon’s Summer Program for Diversity and the Young Actors Conservatory at the Stages Repertory Theater, and in college, Danielle wants to major in theater with a minor in ethnic studies. Her dream schools are the University of Southern California and Columbia because they have strong B.A. programs in theater.
“[With theater] you can take the stories of minorities and people with backgrounds that have been overlooked and show an audience what it is like to live in their shoes. I want to bring out the stories of the voiceless and showcase people who you may not have a chance to meet in real life.”
Jordan’s goal for senior year is to leave an impact on his school. He loves hip hop, modern, and jazz dance and participates in North Forest’s Legends in Motion dance group. He’s also on student council and runs track. Over the summer, he participated in the Jump Start program at Xavier University and studied criminal justice and forensic science. Eventually, he’d like to work in a CSI unit in law enforcement. His dream schools right now are Xavier and Hampton.
“I like Xavier’s focus on excelling with the mind and body and Hampton is a very diverse campus away from home.”
Aurora is the co-founder of North Forest’s gardening committee, and her goal for senior year is to ensure that it lasts after she graduates from high school. Aurora also runs cross country, plays soccer, and dances. Over the summer, she attended Bucknell Academy Summer Experience. Aurora’s dream schools are Vanderbilt and Iowa State because they both have strong biology research programs. Aurora is interested in studying microbiology and journalism so that she can help people learn about the world around them.
“I want to make this the best school year ever and make my family proud by being the first girl to graduate from high school.”
